Joshia Perdee “J.P.” Blanton, 88, of Loris passed away on Sunday, Aug. 4, 2019, at McLeod Loris Hospital in Loris. Mr. Blanton was born on Feb. 12, 1931 in Loris, to the late Samuel Overson Blanton and the late Matha Skipper Blanton. Mr. Blanton served his country with honor and courage during the Korean Conflict in the U.S. Army. He went on to work as the owner and operator of J.P. and Son Garage from 1973 to 1993 and ran his own sawmill for the past 20 years. Mr. Blanton was a longtime active member of Live Oak Baptist Church and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
Survivors include his son, Arana Blanton and wife Joyce of Loris, two daughters, Jean Fowler and husband Roger D. and Lois Inman and husband Dean, all of Loris; one brother, Jack Blanton of Loris; one sister, Matha Lee Causey of Loris; four grandchildren, Jessica Akins, Kinoth Joshua Fowler, Julie Harrell and husband, Brad and Angela Inman; four great-grandchildren, Scotty Harrell, Drake Fowler, Lexi Akins, and Teagan Perritt; and special friend, Loraine Stroud of Loris.
Mr. Blanton was predeceased by his wife, Myrtle Mincey Blanton; his four brothers, Mack Edison Blanton, Bill Blanton, Joe Blanton and Hubert Blanton; two sisters, Mary Lou Blanton and Louise Doyle; and two half- brothers, Leroy Sarvis and Cliff Sarvis.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, Aug. 7, from 1:30 p.m. until the time of service at 3 p.m. at Hardwick Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Alvin Jackson officiating. Committal services followed at Pleasant Meadow Cemetery.
