The city announced that they would be conducting dredging of the sandbars in the canals, starting this Monday, at various locations along the minor channel from 53rd Avenue North, north to where the minor channel intersects with the main channel.

The city was awarded $655,158 from The Horry County Transportation Committee, which will help pave a select number of secondary state roads that need the work, while also allowing city officials to stay on schedule with regular maintenance of roads.

This year’s event will be the 62nd Fish Fry & Barbecue and will be held at the Ocean Drive Elementary School on 11th Avenue North on Saturday, Oct. 30, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad presented veteran and former firefighter William H. Ewe with a gifted motorized wheelchair and vehicle carrier at the Veteran’s Welcome Home and Resource Center on Highway 57 in Little River.

The day brings together hundreds of volunteers that will work together on one project to make a change and impact the community. This year’s project will be at Oak Tree Farm, an SOS Care Living Community in Conway.

The department announced this weekend that LoeLoe, its explosives detection K-9, passed away last Thursday, Sept. 9.

The North Myrtle Beach community paid its final respects to Sgt. Best last week as the young officer was laid to rest following a police processional and funeral fitting for the real-life hero that he was to so many people.
