The Loris High School Lady Lions softball team won their preseason tournament with three straight wins culminating in their 12-2 victory over the North Myrtle Beach Lady Chiefs Monday night at the Loris High School softball field.

The Lions began the tournament on Friday with an 11-1 win over Lake View. On Saturday the Lions beat Socastee 15-0. Loris had 11 hits in the win, led by Caitlin Black, who went 2 for 3 with a homer and a single in a big third inning for the Lions. She drove in four runs.

In addition to Black, Kennedi Kratzer, Kenzie McCoy, Karley Hand, and Emma Powell had singles. Haley Spence doubled, Aysia Whitney tripled in the third inning.

Jessie Cartrette pitched for the Lions in that second tournament game.

The Lions advanced to the final game against the Chiefs, who won three games and lost one on their way to the championship game. The teams each scored a first inning run. After the Chiefs failed to score in the top of the second, the Lions scored twice in the bottom of the second aided by a Chiefs error and passed ball.

The Chiefs got one run back in the top of the third. The Lions then answered with a two run home run by Karley Hand. A six run outburst in the bottom of the fifth inning sealed the Loris win. Six Lions drove in runs that gave them a 11-2 cushion. After the Chiefs failed to score in the sixth, the Lions added one run to end the game.

Hand was a hitting and pitching star, striking out seven while allowing two runs and two hits while on the mound.
