Coach William “Greg” Mance has accepted the position of head coach for the Loris Lions. He brings to Loris High School his 23 years of experience as a football coach at Richlands High School in Virginia. The official announcement was made when the Horry County School Board approved Mance to replace 10 year veteran Jamie Snyder.
Mance’s record speaks for itself with 205 wins, 12 Southwest District Championships, 19 consecutive play-off appearances, five Virginia High School League state championship game appearances and a state title and taking the Richlands Blue Tornados to vie for state championships.
The plan is to retire from Richlands by springtime training to come to Loris to shape the Loris Lions varsity and junior varsity football teams into winning teams.
Mance recently stated at the age of 56 this move to South Carolina is an opportunity of a lifetime and a dream come true, not only to coach the Lions football team but to enjoy golfing in the off season. He has spent vacations in Myrtle Beach for nearly 40 years and loves the area.
Decisions will be made for the football coaching staff at Loris High School. Mance is not sure what positions may open up though he has not ruled out bringing one or two current Blue Tornado staffers with him to South Carolina if possible. He has said he feels he is leaving Richlands in great shape.
Mance has said that senior football players want to go out in their senior year winning the play-offs. He has goals to set and discuss with the other coaches and build a team for the Lions to be proud to be part of a winning team. It will take hard work, conditioning and commitment on the part of the current coaching staff and the players to accept Mance as their head coach and leader.
Mance will take the position by spring training 2020. He is looking forward to setting the goal to lead the Loris Lions to a winning season.
We have reached out to Mance through email and phone calls and at press time we have not received a response.
