After much thought and consideration Mark Causey officially filed for the Horry County Council District 9 seat.  Causey announced his campaign, Common Sense for Common Goals, on Monday, March 16.

He states there are many issues in District 9 and in the county that need to be addressed. He said, “The four most important issues to me are development, flooding, roads and public safety.” He continued, “Rash solutions only lead to more problems.” He believes the common goal is to maintain the quality of life we enjoy while acknowledging that some growth is inevitable.

“The following common sense goals are something I believe we must work towards,” says Causey. “Number one is if it is wetland, don’t build on it, if it floods, find a way to mitigate the flooding; number two is to fix and improve the roads we already have and do not ignore them while they become more congested.” He continued, “Number three is to improve public safety coverage for District 9 and throughout the county. And number four is to impact fees as one funding solution council needs to implement so that the citizens who are living here are not subjected to increased taxes to pay for those coming in the future.”

He feels his qualifications would benefit the district and the county with the five years he has served on the County Planning Commission and is currently serving on the County Transportation Committee.

Causey says it would be an honor to earn the votes for the Horry County Council seat in District 9 in the upcoming Tuesday, June 9, Republican Primary Election.

With Causey in the running, other candidates who officially filed near March 15, 2020, are Rome Prince and Terry Fowler. Each is vying for the coveted seat of Paul Prince who has been an elected official for nearly three decades.
