Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, volunteers attend wreath-laying ceremonies at more than 1,600 locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad. During this week hundreds of wreaths were delivered to North Myrtle Beach by David and Michelle West from Kansas. David, a veteran himself, was chosen by E.W. Wylie Corporation to deliver wreaths to North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens and Florence National Cemetery.
On Saturday, Dec. 14, 2019, North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens, a Wreaths Across America location, and the Grand Strand Composite Civil Air Patrol joined together to honor and remember veterans during the holiday season. Trish Heine, coordinator for Wreaths Across America at North Myrtle Beach Memorial Gardens said “We have been celebrating our veterans for many years with Memorial Day and Veterans Day Services. Being chosen to be a participating Wreaths Across America location two years ago brings joy not only to our community, but to the families who have loved ones here at the cemetery.
The outpour of volunteers, sponsorship and kindness from the community was extraordinary this year.” Support and sponsorship comes from individuals and organizations such as scouts, civic and religious. Some of those who attended were Girl Scout Troop #845 and 2910, North Myrtle Beach and Troop #436, Socastee, U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, 4th Degree Assembly of the Knights of Columbus Shallotte, N.C., and The Veterans Organization of Cresswind of Myrtle Beach.
This mission of Wreaths Across America is to remember our fallen heroes, honor those who serve and teach our children about the sacrifices made by veterans and their families. This event is every December on the second or third Saturday.
