North Myrtle Beach High School spring sports teams are past the halfway point of their seasons as they continue play this week. Here is a review of recent events and teams and a look ahead.
Girls Softball
The girls softball team traveled to Wilson High School last Tuesday and lost by a 7-2 score in a conference game. The Lady Chiefs then came back on Wednesday, March 20, with an 11-1 victory over Loris in a non-conference game, aided by two four-run innings in the fourth and sixth.
Last Friday the Lady Chiefs couldn’t get anything going and lost 4-0 to Darlington. The girls team got back in action with a home game Tuesday against Hartsville, then travel to Darlington for another conference matchup Friday at Darlington.
Girls Soccer
The Lady Chiefs soccer team had a good week last week, first beating Wilson 3-0 in a conference game followed by a 6-0 shutout over Hartsville last Friday. The NMB girls had a 1-0 halftime lead before exploding for five second half goals. The Lady Chiefs were scheduled to play Myrtle Beach on Tuesday, March 26.
Boys Soccer
The Chiefs soccer team beat Wilson 2-0 last Tuesday, and they lost a tough game to Hartsville by a 4-3 score. The two teams were tied 3-3 after regulation and had to play two overtime periods before Hartsville scored the winning goal.
The Chiefs also played in a tournament against Myrtle Beach and St. James last weekend, losing to St. James 4-0 and then Myrtle Beach by a 2-0 score. The Chiefs have a chance to get back at Myrtle Beach with a scheduled game to be played at North Myrtle Beach Middle School on Tuesday.
The Chiefs were 3-1 in conference play prior to the Myrtle Beach game. The Chiefs have three straight road games, the 27th at St. James, 29th at Darlington and April 1st at Aynor.
Lacrosse
The boys varsity lacrosse team lost to Waccamaw 14-1 last Saturday. They have a scheduled home game against Socastee Tuesday, March 26. Then they take on Hawken High School (Ohio) Thursday and play Beaufort Saturday at noon, both home games.
The girls varsity lacrosse team plays Socastee Tuesday, March 26, prior to the boys game with the Braves.
In other sports, the track team is in a three-team meet against Conway and Carolina Forest on the 27th and the boys tennis team has scheduled matches against Hartsville on the 26th at Hartsville and home against St. James on the 27th.
