That’s the record North Myrtle Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10804 achieved this past weekend at the Department of S.C., VFW’S Winter Conference in Columbia, when the Post, again, won the Outstanding Post Newsletter in S.C. for 2019.
The award is based on criteria that includes an informed membership, listing leadership contact information, membership recruiting, support of Post functions that effect the civilian population, such as promoting student and teacher recognition programs like Voice of Democracy, Patriots Pen and Outstanding Teacher. Promoting distribution of Buddy Poppies (the Post’s annual fundraiser for helping veterans in need).
Most importantly, keeping the membership informed of the various services available to veterans through the VFW, Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans Administration and numerous civil agencies. Just as important is getting the word out through the newsletter to just where information can be found. Such as the Post/State Website, Facebook and military affiliated magazines, along with the sites themselves.
Lastly, keeping the members informed of Post, District and Department meetings. Encouraging attendance and providing Post membership, through the newsletter, with the important information from each of these meetings.
La Monte is the writer/editor of the Post Newsletter. He started it three years ago and since then has produced a monthly newsletter every month.
