NMB 11-12 year-old All-Stars finish second in Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament

The North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department 11 and 12 year-old All-Star team made it all the way to the final game of the Dixie Youth State Championship Tournament before losing 6-2 to Edgefield County to end their dream of going to the Dixie Youth World Series. North Myrtle Beach got to the finals by beating Greenwood 6-1 in their first game, then beating Hartsville 12-0. Coach Joe celebration is set

The city of North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation will hold a naming and dedication ceremony for the Joe Lategano Court located at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center on Possum Trot Road on Wednesday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m. Coach Joe Lategano will be recognized for his many years as a coach, mentor and supporter of North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation. Coach Joe currently serves as the  chairman of the Recreation Commission. All past players, coaches and supporters are invited to the ceremony to celebrate Coach Joe Lategano.

Commission to discuss annexation of Possum Trot

The North Myrtle Beach Planning Commission will hold a special workshop on Friday, July 26, at 2 p.m., at City Hall to discuss Annexation & Zoning Designation ANZ‐19‐01 involving a petition to annex lands currently occupied by the Possum Trot Golf Course and zone those lands Planned Development District (PDD) with the creation of the Tidal Walk PDD. This item was tabled by the Planning Commission at its regular meeting on July 16 and is also scheduled for the Planning Commission’s August 6 meeting agenda.

Kenedi Board, Young Miss Teen North Myrtle Beach

Kenedi Board, Young Miss Teen North Myrtle Beach, recently donated a collection of small toys, toothbrushes, toothpaste and other dental care supplies to Miles for Smiles, the school dental program based in Horry County.  Miles for Smiles began operation in 2004 by Little River Medical Center and now provides dental services to 26 schools in Horry County.  Assisting Ms. Board was Ashby Grace Reeves, Little Miss Horry County, and Easlyn Hall, Wee Miss North Myrtle Beach.

Lion Watson receives award

By Arleen Lopano Lion Bill Watson was presented the Lion Key award as he has successfully opened the door of Lionism to at least two individuals. Lion Verne Cappell presented him with the pin. Lions Club International recognized Lion Watson for this award for  his demonstrating active commitment to the growth and strength of the association.   Lion Watson was one of the original charter members  of the Little River Lions Club.

Luau fundraising event to benefit Julie’s Kids.

On Saturday, Aug. 3, from 5 to 8 p.m. at Harbourgate Marina in North Myrtle Beach, Freedom Boat Club is doing a BBQ with all the trimmings including dessert, soda and water.  Entertainment will include local band, Atomic Potion, and The Aloha Experience Hula Dancers and Fire Breathers. SWA recognizes inaugural recipients

In March 2019, the Horry County Solid Waste Authority announced the creation of a new recognition program. The Spotlight on Environmental Awareness (SEA) program will recognize agencies/businesses/companies that practice reducing, reusing and recycling in their daily operations, promote the conservation of natural resources and/or utilizes sustainable business practices. Two to three businesses will be recognized quarterly on the SWA website and social media platforms and will include a brief summary of the recipient’s environmental efforts and a link to their specific website. Tax free weekend approaches

South Carolina has announced dates for the 2019 sales tax holiday weekend. Shoppers can buy a large variety of back to school items without paying the state’s 6 percent sales tax and many local taxes during the tax free weekend which will begin on Friday, Aug. 2, through Sunday, Aug. 4. Items such as school supplies, computers, clothing, footwear and certain bed and bath items will be tax exempt. In past years, consumers have saved between two million and three million dollars during the tax free weekend holiday.
