Berry Center in Little River and a celebration with the Ecotots at Ocean Drive Elementary School in North Myrtle Beach. By Meg J. Williams Jaime Cech is Waterway Elementary’s Teacher Spotlight this week. She teaches 5th grade and is from Cortland, Ohio, and she loves the Ohio State Buckeyes! Jaime followed her family down south in 2002. Her mother lives nearby in North Carolina but she still manages to get back up north to visit. Her older sister lives in Hershey, Pa., with her husband and four children. The North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation Department announces its next Pedal in the Park with a Luau theme. Bring your bicycles out to the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex on June 7 at 7 p.m. for a leisurely 3-mile starlit bike ride. The ride starts at 7:30 p.m. and will begin and end at The Amphitheater. This event will premiere our new Junior Course (1 mile).  This is not a race,so you can bike at your own pace. On May 21 the Rotary Club of North Myrtle Beach had the pleasure of giving $10,000 in scholarships to some North Myrtle Beach High School seniors. The Rotary Club looks forward to these outstanding students doing great things in the world and their community. Pictured are several Little River Lions at their booth during the recent Blue Crab Festival.  Each year they have a booth and sell brooms, have a 50-50 drawing and give away lollipops to people and their children.  The winner of this years 50-50 drawing was Dan Faucher of Georgetown. The Lions Club is a non-profit and all donations they receive are put back into the community.  They build handicap rqmps for the disabled, provide eye glasses for people who otherwise could not afford them, sponsor eye screenings at the schools, award scholarships  and much more.

North Myrtle Beach High School Principal Trevor Stawderman will be moving from North Myrtle Beach High School this coming school year. Strawderman will be going to the Charleston County School District where he will be serving as an executive director under superintendent Gerrita Postlewait. Postlewait is a former superintendent of schools in Horry County. Strawderman has been influential in the North Myrtle Beach community and his absence will be sorely missed. Four North Myrtle Beach school children were recognized at the state American Legion Auxiliary convention last Saturday for their first place essays on the topic of Veteran Homelessness. They were all sponsored by Little River ALA Post #186. Students were: Cassie Difloure, Sienna Cooper, Lillian Freeman and Ean Bane. Post Delegates were: Rachel Culp, Bette McMoreow and Chris McCreavy.
