Edmund “Ed” Vaitis of North Myrtle Beach passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at his home. Ed Vaitas was a man that is well known and loved in the North Myrtle Beach community and surrounding areas for his many charitable services. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines in 1957 through 1967 then he became a Veservist. In 1971 he and his wife Joan relocated to North Myrtle Beach. They continued their services at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church by initiating the Lenten Fish fry. They never stopped serving. Ed became a fourth-degree Sir …

On May 2, the city of North Myrtle Beach and Hillside Development, LLC signed a contract for the purchase and sale of 7.24 acres of the 9.35-acre site popularly known as Ingram Dunes. The purchase price is $2.5 million, based on an appraisal ordered by the landowner. The family of Charles Ingram will contribute $1.4 million to the purchase and the city of North Myrtle Beach, using its $500,000 contribution, a $500,000 grant from the S.C. Overview The House gaveled to a close this week after dozens of bills and the Sine Die Resolution passed both the House and Senate. This was the first year of a two-year session that focused primarily on transformative education reform, presenting a balanced and efficient budget, solutions for Santee Cooper, and the pro-life ‘Heartbeat’ legislation. Peter Joseph Quintano, 99, of Loris passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at McLeod Loris Hospital. He was born on Nov. 3, 1919, in Bari, Italy, to the late John Joseph Quintano and the late Pauline Carnocchio Quintano. Mr. Quintano served his country with courage, honor and dignity in the U.S. Army during World War II, after which he worked as a master butcher in New Jersey where he owned and operated his own butcher shop. Emily Pendleton Hughes, 49, of Little River passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2019, from metastatic breast cancer.  She was born on Dec. 16, 1969 in Atlanta, Ga. to Pamela Permenter and Jonathan Patrick Hopping.  She was married to Kevin Mooney, who predeceased her in 2002, and was subsequently married to Kevin Hughes, her husband of seventeen years at the time of her death. Emily was an excellent wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.  She loved her family, especially her two sons, her granddaughter, grandson and her three nieces.  She was the ideal of motherly love, and her hugs would warm …

Congratulations to the Green Sea Floyds High School Varsity Softball team on defeating Cross High School Trojans this past week by a score of 21-0 to win the District VIII Championship. The Lady Trojans went on to defeat Palmetto Scholars Academy on Saturday by a score of 23-0 to advance in the playoffs to play the Lake View Lady Wild Gators.
