Twenty-two students at Loris Middle School participated in the school’s Technology Fair held on Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The students select a category they want to create from a list provided by Amber LaSalle, the school’s media specialist. The projects at the fair included robotics, digital photography, animation, mobile app creation and video editing. They began working on their presentation beginning in November 2018 with the deadline of March 15, 2019. The Zoning Commission Committee met on Monday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Loris Chamber of Commerce conference room. Present at the meeting were committee members Linda Morrison, Ruth Ann Jones and Tommy Brogdon, the city code enforcement director Brandon Harrelson, city attorney Kenneth Moss and resident Wendy Barusch. Committee members not present were Brett Powell and Joseph Flesch. Poseidon, a six-month old English Bulldog with a fun and spunky personality, was the winner of the Best Irish Dressed Dog contest last Saturday at the North Myrtle Beach Times office. The Kenneth Carmack family traveled from Conway. Nadia says Poseidon is her best friend. Her parents say they are inseparable and love having fun together. Everyone is invited to join the North Myrtle Beach Historic Preservation Society at their Potluck Picnic for Ingram Dunes. The preservation of Ingram Dunes is the first project of the NMBHPS. They believe in the mission to save this historic site. The purpose for holding this picnic is to gather like minded citizens in support of saving Ingram Dunes. During the March 18 City Council meeting, Mayor Marilyn Hatley presented to Sea Haven for Youth Senior Community Services Coordinator Wendy Gore a proclamation declaring the week of March 17-March 23 as National Safe Place Week. This marks the 36th anniversary of the nationwide Safe Place collaborative community initiative. The proclamation urges the people of North Myrtle Beach to promote awareness of and volunteer involvement in the Safe Place program, managed locally by Sea Haven for Youth. The North Myrtle Beach varsity baseball team began a week of games last Tuesday when they traveled to Myrtle Beach and came away with a 4-2 win. The Chiefs then took on their second “rival” team on Wednesday evening as Loris visited the Chiefs sports complex. This game went down to the wire as the Chiefs rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 9-8 win. Wednesday’s game saw the Chiefs come back in dramatic fashion as they trailed Loris 8-6 going into the bottom of the seventh inning. The Chiefs got two men on by sloppy play …

The Coastal Chairmen, a local team that practices at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness center, took second place in the CWBC tournament last weekend at the aquatic center gymnasium. The Chairmen lost to the Fayetteville Flyers by a 66-54 score in the championship game Sunday afternoon. The two teams battled to an 18-18 score after the first period but the Flyers, who were undefeated throughout the double elimination tournament, slowly took charge after that. They increased their lead to 37-30 at the half, then led 52-42 after three ten-minute periods and won by a 66-54 margin. Seven teams …

My column this week is from John 18, “Jesus Appears Before Pilate.” Verse 28 – Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. The Jews led Jesus to the palace of the Roman governor. John says little about the Jewish phase of Jesus’ trial but much about the Roman trial (see Mark 14:53—15:15). It is possible that John was in the Praetorium, the governor’s official residence, for …
