The North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum announces a new themed exhibit for the holidays, A Festive Forest. Local residents Donita and Rob Kayton have donated their collection of handcarved wooden Santas  and their collection of handmade baskets for use in the exhibit. Several community groups are decorating trees for the exhibit. The museum will hold a fundraiser by selling tickets for a variety of items that have been donated by volunteers. A Festive Forest will open on Friday, Nov. 23, and run through Saturday, Dec. 29. Make plans to stop by the museum before the holiday season ends to …

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs varsity football program advanced to the 2nd round of the South Carolina state playoffs this past Friday night with a 34-22 win over the Wilson Tigers. The Chiefs (8-3) faced Region 6 foe Wilson inside the Hank Hester Sports Complex on the campus of North Myrtle Beach High School in a game that flipped the script of the October 6 game in Florence, S.C. Edna Joyce Tharrington Warren, 66, of Loris passed away on Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, at Regency Select Hospital in Florence following an illness. Mrs. Warren was born on Nov. 18, 1951, in Snow Hill, N.C., to the late Howard Tharrington and the late Doris Thomas Tharrington. She was a correctional officer at the Eastern Correctional Institute in Maury, N.C., and was a Baptist. Survivors include her husband, Mike Warren of the home; son, Danny Herring and wife Candy of Whiteville, N.C.; step-children, Michael L. The Loris Women’s Coalition held their third annual Salute to Loris American Heroes, a Veterans Day tribute. Veda Nichols, director and coordinator, along with the lady members of the coalition spent Saturday morning, Nov 10, at 10 a.m. honoring the Loris veterans. Nichols welcomed guests speaking of the poem, “The Noble and the Brave”, by Joanna Fuchs. Felipe “Toby” Mendoza was enjoying a warm day of outdoor fun with his sister and his friends on Sunday, Oct. 21, when Rocky, the neighbor’s pit bull, attacked him. Toby shared his experience at first referring to the dog by its name, Rocky, when describing how they have played in the past, but once he began describing the events after the first bite, he referred to it as “the dog”. Toby detailed the events from the beginning saying, “My friend got into some trouble and had to go inside the house, so I waited for him to come back out.” …

On Monday, Nov. 12, Little River American Legion Post 186 and North Myrtle Beach Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10804 paid tribute to military veterans at the Veterans Memorial at the North Myrtle Beach Sports Complex. The Great Christmas Light Show returns to the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex on Nov. 23. This park-wide lighted celebration captures the true spirit of the season with over two million lights festively displayed along a 1.5 mile drive throughout the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex. Over 400 magical light displays, some up to 70 feet long, have been custom made for The Great Christmas Light Show.
