Playing through a heavy fog at South Aiken High School, the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs defeated the South Aiken Thoroughbreds (5-6) in the first round of the class 4A state football playoffs this past Friday night. Jamie Lee Prince, 27, of Loris passed away on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2018. He was born on June 22, 1991, in Conway to Harvey Lee Prince and Mary Christiane Jordan. Roberta Harris Gerald, 91, of Loris went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018. Mrs. Gerald was born on April 24, 1927, in Loris to the late Thurman McKinley Harris and the late Lee Tyler Harris. She was a loving homemaker and a lifelong dedicated member of Cane Branch Baptist Church. As part of her ministry, she was a part of the adult choir for many years and taught the junior age Sunday school and the senior ladies class. Gladys Todd Carter Canada, 94, of Loris passed away on Friday, Nov. 2, 2018, at Lower Cape Fear Hospice House in Whiteville, N.C. Mrs. Canada was born on March 25, 1924, in Loris, a daughter of the late Furnie Cornelius Todd and the late Lucy Ann Hardee Todd. Mrs. Canada was a loving homemaker and a longtime member of Wayside Baptist Church. A trunk-or-treat event sponsored by Capture Inc. and Loris First Baptist Church was held on Halloween night, Wednesday, Oct. 31, beginning at 6 p.m. Children dressed as unicorns, scarecrows, super heroes and witches and held their bags out for candy. The excitement of the evening was approaching each trunk open and decorated filled with candy for the children trick-or treating. The Horry County Board of Architectural Review’s Legacy Business Recognition Program will recognize two Loris businesses on Nov. 9 with ribbon cutting ceremonies. A ceremony will be held at Blanton Building Supplies at 10:30 am, and at Ford’s Fuel & Propane at 11 a.m. The ceremonies are free and open to the public. The W. F. In the pouring rain, the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs (6-3) varsity football team defeated the Marlboro County Bulldogs (6-3) to earn the No. 3 playoff seed out of Region 6-4A. With a final score of 12-0, the Chiefs shutout an opponent for the first time this season.
