Joan D. Kroutch, 73, of North Myrtle Beach died  on Sunday, Jan. 12, 2020, at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center in Myrtle Beach. Born on Oct. 20, 1946, in Oceanside, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Tieman. Mrs. Kroutch is survived by her husband of 52 years, James M. Kroutch Sr.; son, James M. Kroutch  Jr.; brother, Robert Tieman; sister, Deborah Pacifico; and two grandchildren. The family will receive friends from 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 18, in Lee Funeral Home Chapel. Donna J. Mathis, 82, of Little River, died Monday, Jan. 6, 2020, at her home in Little River. Born on Aug. 21, 1937, in Logan, WV, she was the daughter of the late Eldon and Virginia (Workman) Richardson. Kristie enjoys classic literature and reading to her students

Meet Kristie Gill, a special education teacher at Waterway Elementary. Kristie is in her 14th year teaching at Waterway and 30th in her career. She taught four years at Loris Elementary when she first moved to South Carolina. Previously,  She lived in Barbados and taught students with exceptional needs for 11 years. Gill earned a bachelors degree in special education from East Carolina University. By Mary Templeton : Yaupon Garden Club members took a step back in time during their January 7 meeting at the North Myrtle Beach area Historical Museum.  Cathy Altman, executive director, conducted an informative tour of the museum following a delicious luncheon provided by Phyllis Green, Belinda Roy, Barb Skeslien, Eileen Fox and Mary Templeton. Junior Garden Club students receive composting lessons

By Sharon Robinson : Driftwood Garden Club welcomed Susan Platt from the North Myrtle Beach Historical Preservation Society at the Driftwood/Riverside Elementary Junior Garden Club meeting on January 8, 2020.   Susan donated a garden composter to the Junior Garden Club and shared her valuable knowledge of composting with the children.  After explaining what can and can’t be composted, the children were arranged in groups to play a game. The object of the game was to separate trash, compostable material and recyclable material into three separate piles using items she brought and waste from the children’s snack. On Monday, January 6, 2020, during the North Myrtle Beach city council meeting, Mayor Marilyn Hatley stated that Lawton Dews for many years has ardently supported various aspects of city government and gotten involved within his community and county. NMB Chiefs wrestlers finish second in Chiefs Classic

The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team hosted eight teams last Saturday for the Chiefs Classic, “Brawl on the River”, at North Myrtle Beach gym and after a long day finished in second place behind Carolina Forest. North Myrtle Beach, Beaufort, North Charleston, Stratford, Loris, Waccamaw, Carolina Forest and Fairfield each wrestled four duals during the tournament, where individual matches earned points for the school’s team and eventually the final team winner.
