Joyce Somerset

Joyce Somerset, 87, of North Myrtle Beach, died on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at her home. Born on Feb. 12, 1932, in Lincolnton, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Hillard and Virginia (Kale) Saine. She is survived by her daughter, Billie Martin of North Myrtle Beach, and two grand dogs, Grayson and Piper. Joyce retired from AT&T after 35 years of service with perfect attendance. She was active throughout her life in church, serving as an Elder, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, leading a Bible study and various other duties and activities. Bettie Gail Stevens Altman of Loris passed to her heavenly home on  Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. McLeod Foundation raises over $50,000 for cancer patients

The McLeod Health Foundation benefiting McLeod Loris Seacoast raised over $50,000 at the McLeod Health Cancer Benefit Golf Classic presented by MagMutual. This two day golf event was held on Friday, Nov. 8, and Saturday, Nov. 9, at the Dye Club at Barefoot Resort & Golf in North Myrtle Beach. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the cancer patients at McLeod Seacoast through the HOPE Fund (Helping Oncology Patients Everyday). By Meg Williams: A long time resident of North Myrtle Beach, Amanda Todd is very familiar with yelling “Go Chiefs.” Mrs. Todd is in her ninth year of teaching and currentky teaches first grade at Waterway Elementary. Amanda earned her bachelors degree in Early Education and her masters in Education in Literacy at Coastal Carolina University. NMB Lions to recognize Diabetes Awareness Month

November is recognized as Diabetes Awareness Month.  Lions International members have as a primary mission the eradication of preventable blindness. Freeman appointed to school board

The Horry County School Board has filled the vacant District One seat. The seat has been filled by W. Russell Freeman, the senior pastor at Little River United Methodist Church on Highway 17 in Little River. Russell Freeman is a graduate of both Wofford College and Emory University and has served churches around the state of South Carolina including those in Loris and Little River.
