Prior to the Monday, Oct. 21, North Myrtle Beach City Council meeting, Council members met in a 6:45 p.m. executive session to discuss possible candidates to fill a vacancy for an unexpired term on the Planning Commission. Former North Myrtle Beach Planning Commission Member, Major Katherine Jenerette, and her husband, Major Van Jenerette, U.S. Army (Ret.), participated in the 35th Annual Army Ten-Miler held at the Nation’s Capitol this past weekend. All traffic was stopped and crowds gathered on Main Street in Loris on Friday, Oct. 18, at 4 p.m. for the Loris High School (LHS) Homecoming Parade. Leading the parade was Loris Police Chief Gary Buley driving a patrol car with the blue lights on. Riding along with Buley was the large Loris Lion stuffed animal that was donated to the department. The unnamed lion is waiting for residents to give it a name; a post on their Facebook page requests children give the lion a name. The Loris First Presbyterian Church donated a plot of land to the city of Loris. The property across from Forest Drive and Milligan Street is overgrown with foliage and trees and has a culvert along side of the property. The spokesperson for the church stated that they had approached the city to purchase the property when David Stoudemire was mayor, however at the time the city was not interested in purchasing the land. The land was donated to the church by an individual and they had no purpose for the property and felt the best solution is to donate the …

Last week, lots of parents and grandparents, hundreds of fall youth sports participants ages 7 to 17 and their coaches, the Mayor and City Council, the North Myrtle Beach Recreation Commission and others gathered at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex to mark the start of the 2019 fall youth sports program, which includes 27 teams with 560 people.
