New Sign being installed

A 12-foot by 16-foot LED Screen is being installed at the southwestern corner of Highway 17 and Robert Edge Parkway The SCDOT-approved sign will have a brick base and landscaping. Constructed to withstand winds of up to 140 mph, the sign will help promote city festivals, concerts, sports tourism and other events and will share city information during hurricanes and other incidents.

The Little Lions take on Aynor Blue Jackets

The Loris Recreation football season began on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10:15 a.m. with the Little Lions roaring onto the field to take on the Aynor Blue Jackets.  The Little Lions cheerleaders are on the sidelines with pom poms in hand, sporting their uniforms and cheering for the team as the crowd gathered to watch the game. The Loris Varsity Football welcomed the Carolina Forest Panthers to Loris this past Friday night. The 10th ranked Panthers were more than the Lions could handle. New queens will represent city at 2020 events

The Loris Chamber of Commerce presented the Miss Loris Bog-Off Festival Pageant on Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Loris High School auditorium beginning at 1 p.m. The emcees for the pageant were Greg and Morina Martin.  Greg welcomed everyone to the pageant then turned the program over to Morina.  She introduced the judges giving a brief history of each one.  Greg introduced each contestant, and Morina presented the question to the future queens. Violet Rollings Boyd, age 76, of Loris passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2019, at her home in Little River. Mrs. Boyd was born on March 17, 1943, in Jefferson to the late Bennett “Jack” Rollings and the late Ruth Jenkins Rollings.  Survivors include her two brothers, Jimmy Rollings and wife Mary Ann of Lancaster and Gary L. Theodore ‘Ted’ Van Weeren

Theodore “Ted” Van Weeren, 72, of Longs died on Saturday, Sept. 21, 2019, at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center in Little River. Born on Sept. 10, 1947, in Holland, he was the son of the late Jacobus and Johanna Van Weeren.  Ted was an accountant and attorney.  He was the recipient of two Emmy Awards for his work at the Olympic Games in 1984 and 1988.
