Joseph M. Mercurio, beloved husband and father, passed away unexpectedly on Sept. 25, 2019, at the age of 83. Joseph is survived by his four children, Karin, Kenneth, Patti-Jo and Peggi, and his four grandchildren, Cameron, Carson, Mary and Hannah. Joseph was born to Joseph and Marge Mercurio on March 20, 1936. He attended high school in Bloomfield where he met a future nursing student named Nancy. The North Myrtle Beach High School boys and girls swim teams joined five other teams competing last Friday at the NMB Aquatic and Fitness Center. The Chiefs squads joined teams from Carolina Forest, St. James, Socastee, Waccamaw and Conway in many individual and relay events. The NMB girls finished second and the boys hung on to finish in third place. The Lady Chiefs volleyball team continued their winning ways in 6AAAA conference play with a 3-0 win over Darlington last Thursday at the Chiefs gym. The Chiefs continued their excellent play last Saturday with a second place finish in the Wildcat Invitational Tournament in Lexington. The Lady Chiefs win over Darlington was highlighted by, as coach Alex Sing put it, “a combination of great serving and near flawless attacking” as they overwhelmed the visiting team. The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs varsity tennis team returned home and won a 4-3 match against visiting Darlington. The Chiefs won three singles matches and split two doubles matches for the win.
