Ryan Walker was recently appointed the new varsity boys basketball coach at North Myrtle Beach High School. Walker replaces Darcie Vincent who moved to Western Carolina University after one year of coaching at North Myrtle Beach. The Back to School Bash held at the Public Safety Building on Walnut Street on Saturday, was more of a success than expected. The goal was to provide 180 children with a book bag filled with school supplies. They gave out 110 book bags and 130 HTC bags filled with supplies listed on the Horry County School District website. On Sunday, Aug. 11, the children’s Christian group called the Sonseekers presented an early Christmas program at the 11 a.m. service at Dogwood Hill Baptist Church in Loris. The Grand Strand’s first-ever mega-pet-adoption event, “Furricane Party,” will take place Aug. 17-18 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The South Carolina Department of Social Services (DSS) recently learned of possible phishing scams in an attempt to acquire personal identifying information from individuals perceived to be recipients of federal benefit programs such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF). It has been reported these scams may include threatening people with an arrest. DSS has reported these possible phishing scams to the proper authorities and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
