Lillie Mae Hodge Graham Miller, 74, of Loris passed away on Monday, July 29, 2019, at Columbus Regional Healthcare System in Whiteville, N.C. She was born on Feb. 22, 1945, in Green Sea, to the late Curtis Hodge and the late Annie Lee Todd Hodge Strickland. Mrs. Miller was a member of Wayside Baptist Church and worked as a supervisor at Loris Manufacturing until her retirement. Susan Diane Sarvis, 63,  of Florence passed away on Friday, Aug. 2, 2019 at MUSC Health Florence Medical Center.  Joshia Perdee “J.P.” Blanton, 88, of Loris passed away on Sunday,  Aug. 4, 2019, at McLeod Loris Hospital in Loris. Mr. Blanton was born on Feb. 12, 1931 in Loris, to the late Samuel Overson Blanton and the late Matha Skipper Blanton. Little Library being installed in area.

The Rotary Club of Little River has joined the movement to establish little free libraries in our community.  Hopefully, these libraries will place literature close to people who don’t have easy access to larger facilities. The first little library in Little River was installed at Wampee United Methodist Church on Highway 90.  It was a collaborative effort by the Rotary Club, the church and the Boy Scouts.  Several Rotarians, church members, scouts and parents pitched in to install the facility.  The library is available to all.  The idea is to take something and replace it with something else and keep …

Basketball Court named for Coach Joe

The city of North Myrtle Beach recognized Coach Joe Lategano on July 31 for his years of dedication to parks and recreation activities. A basketball court at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center is now known as Joe Lategano Court. Coach Joe began volunteering with the North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation Department in 1993. He organized and conducted the “Summer Slam” basketball camp each summer for more than a decade. More than 500 children participated in this free basketball camp. Tree City Board picks a pair of Cleveland pear

The North Myrtle Beach Tree City Board used its August Tree of the Month Award to highlight a pair of Cleveland Pears planted in the right-of-way along 9th Avenue South. The trees were planted about 15 years ago as part of an Ocean Oaks Community beautification project. They are healthy and happy in their location. The Cleveland Pear tree is often mistaken for the Bradford pear tree.
