On Monday, Jan. 30, 2023, friends and family gathered at the Horry County Council on Aging Community Center located at 1401 Heritage Road in Loris to celebrate Mrs. Sallie Kapps 104th birthday.

Kapps visits the center regularly to spend time catching up with her close friends and to play bingo.

Although her actual birthday will be on Sunday, Feb. 19, loved ones wanted to be sure she got to celebrate while friends and family were available to have a special day, enjoying cupcakes and reading birthday cards.

Kapps said, “I am so grateful for my friends and family who have helped me,” before listening to everyone sing “Happy Birthday”.

Daughter Sallie Kapps Dalton said, “Mom is grateful every day and loves coming here to spend time with her special friends. She lives life to the fullest.”

Kapps has received many honors for her volunteer work for over 35 years. During the years Kapps could also be seen volunteering in the gift shop at McLeod Loris Hospital, volunteering until the age of 100. She was also a retired Loris Middle School teacher and librarian.

Many Loris residents may also remember her late husband, who was a dentist in Loris for many decades, Dr. L.B. Kapps.

Kapps and many other centenarians of Horry County will be honored at the Horry County Council on Aging Community Center on Friday, Feb. 17, at 10 a.m. The center is located at 1268 21st Ave. N. in Myrtle Beach. All are welcome to attend.

For more information, you may contact the center in Myrtle Beach at 843-626-3991.
