Loris High School athletic director Barry Brooks and Jodi Nealey Cox, athletic assistant, put their heads together to find a way to recognize the seniors who participated in spring sports. Brooks said, “We wanted to find some way to recognize the seniors involved in spring sports.” He continued, “We are not able to have Senior Night to share with their parents and fellow teammates during the spring sporting events. Jodi and I came up with a plan to set out signs showing the seniors that we care.”

Brooks and Cox placed the signs in the Courtyard on Main last week for Loris residents to help the senior spring sports athletes see the appreciation from the high school athletic department. Spring sports consists of baseball, softball, soccer, golf and track and field. They recognized 29 seniors.

Both Brooks and Cox say it is unfortunate that the seniors who worked so industriously to train for their sport were interrupted at the beginning of the season by the pandemic. Each year the school athletic department and coaches recognize seniors who participated in a sport at Senior Night and have a Spring Sports Banquet where parents attend as their senior is spotlighted. No banquet will be held therefore each senior will receive public recognition with a sign with their name and sport written on it. This is an incredible way for the seniors to feel the pride of their sport. Many seniors have visited the courtyard and had their picture taken with their sign for prosperity.

Brooks wants the signs to remain in the courtyard as long as possible to keep the kids in the public eye.

Recognized are as follows: Golf – Dylan Tyler, Baseball – Jacob Black, Alan Ayala, Lance Caines, Gage Conner and Jermaine Johnson, Softball – Maddie Cox, Kenley Jackson and Carly Billings, Track and Field – Jar’reizz Grate, T’rsia Smalls, Kennan Chestnut, Je’vade Isaiah, Raquan Livingston, Radrez Bellamy, Aukieviah Livingston and Will Hemmingway, Soccer – Rylan Pennington, Gabriel Bellamy, Davashey Bennett, Argelio Pulido, Kaitlyn Delvin, Marteo Salinas, Cole Bell, Madison Estes, James Hughes and Bilin Lopez.

A1 Signs and Graphics in Conway made and donated the signs to honor the seniors for their spring sports.

We appreciate our young athletes and their hard work and determination to be the best at their chosen sport.
