The 35th Intracoastal Christmas Regatta parades down waterway

The 35th annual Intracoastal Christmas Regatta had a record 35 boats parading by thousands of spectators last Saturday evening from the Little River Inlet to Dock Holidays Marina in North Myrtle Beach.

After a mild Saturday punctuated by the Clemson-South Carolina football game early in the day, fans, residents and visitors gathered at marinas, restaurants, boat ramps or wherever they could get a good view of the colorful boats decorated for the Christmas season.

As the boats passed by, the appreciative crowds cheered and hooted as boats big and small tried to outdo each other with lights, Santas and a reindeer or two.

Judges for the event were placed all along the route and when the wakes quieted down, the points were tabulated with the following results, (order of appearance before the boat name).

The overall winner in the regatta was 29 Waterbridge. The top three point- getters in the 40-59 foot category were 20 Got A Way, first, 28 Noah Jenda, second and 31 Always Five O’Clock, third.

The top three in the 30-39 foot category were 26 Shore Shenigan, first, 25 Fresh Not Frozen, second and 27 Veridian 3, third.

Finally, the top finishers in the 29 and under category were 21 Lil Mermaid, first, 11 Gyp Sea, second and 16 Tooned Out third.

The big winners in the regatta are area children, who will have toys on Christmas through the Yachts for Tots toy drive.
