The Chiefs beat Conway 45-27 to begin a week of three straight wins. Stephens was singled out by coach Chris Mazyck as one of the Chiefs who have come back strong in late season matches as they get ready for Lower State competition.

The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team continued their winning ways last week as they beat Conway 45-22 on Monday at home and then took care of West Brunswick 42-35 and New Hanover 65-18 in a visit to Shallotte on Wednesday.

The Chiefs win over Conway began at the 126-pound weight class as Naszeir Bellamy won by forfeit and a 6-0 score. Teagan Britt-Tripp(132) was behind 2-3 after the first two minutes, went ahead 6-4 after the second and then held on for an 8-7 decision over Conway’s Antonio Hernandez-Rivera and the Chiefs led 9-0. NMB’s Javante Stephens(138) pinned Hayden Casey in 2:58 and the Chiefs lead was 15-0. Austin Collins(145) of Conway won a 7-4 decision over Blake Jenkins for a 15-3 Chiefs lead.

Jackie Gore(152) led 4-1 after the first two minutes, tied 4-4 after the second two but lost a 6-5 decision to Conway’s Johnny Guardian. NMB’s Andre Giddens(160) then pinned Gabriel Johnson in 1:32 to increase the Chiefs margin to 21-6. The next two matches went to Conway, Jonathan Hicks(170) winning a 3-1 decision and Chris Handl(182) winning by forfeit for a 21-15 NMB lead.

The remaining matches were pins, as Chase Simmons(195) pinned Conway’s Elisha Johnson in 1:49, the Tigers Jamie Singletary(220) over Terrence Barr in 3:10 over Chris M, Malachi Black of NMB over Aiden Kite, Chiefs Jackson Smith(106) over Isaiah Clardy, Kenya Keith(113) besting Jacob Moss in 0:55 and North Myrtle Beach’s Justin Marinelli pinning Spencer Sweatt in 3:02 for the 45-27 final score.

Chiefs coach Chris Mazyck stated he “looked forward to the rest of the season. A couple of our kids have stepped up over the last couple of weeks. Javante Stephens came back from some fluid issues and pinned his opponent today. Our guys understand that it’s not about one guy. They have settled into their weights and are all-in as a team. They really are starting to put it all together,” Mazyck said.

Last Wednesday the Chiefs took the short trip to Shallotte and a three-team match with West Brunswick and New Hanover. North Myrtle Beach won eight out of the fourteen individual contests in their match with West Brunswick to win 42-35.

The Trojans Bryson Taylor pinned Jacob Moss in 3:48 to start the competition at the 113-pound weight class. Justin Marinellie(120) evened things out for the Chiefs by pinning Jerrion Davis in 4:41. Naszeir Bellamy(126) followed with a NMB 9-6 decision over Wyatt Gentile. Matthew Smith(132) pinned Chiefs Teagan Britt-Tripp in 0:24. Javante Stephens(138) pinned West Brunswick’s Demetric Stevenson in 1:37.

The Chiefs next three wrestlers pinned their opponents as Blake Jenkins(145) won over Wayde Sibley in 1:47,Jackie Gore(157) over John Boraski in 0:33 and Andre Giddens(160) over Mike Smith in 3:10. Alex Williams(170) pinned Chiefs Rashad Dawud in 1:10, NMB’s Chase Simmons(182) won an 8-3 decision over Cory Sneed and Trojans Say-vyon McCray(195) pinned Seth Clewis in 1:40.

Two of the last three matches were forfeits, Zander Holmes(220) for West Brunswick and Malachi Black(285) for North Myrtle Beach. The last match belonged to West Brunswick a 17-2 win for Christian Zickefoose(106) over the Chiefs Jackson Smith.

The Chiefs began their 65-18 win over New Hanover as the Chiefs Jackson Smith(106) began a seven match NMB win streak, pinning Isaiah Gillespie in 2:56. Jacob Moss(113) and Justin Marinellie(120) both won by forfeit. Naszeir Bellamy(126) won by technical fall in a 16-1 win over Matteo Meehan. Jaylan Moses(132) pinned Christian Gonzalez in 2:45, Javante Stephens(138) pinned Kaleb Edwards in 4:36 and Blake Jenkins(145) pinned Brethan Barnhill in 1:08.

Jackson Cuba(152) finally got a win for New Hanover as he pinned Jackie Gore in 5:55, just before time ran out in the third period. Andre Giddens(160) pinned New Hanover’s Nathaniel Monteath in 1:56. New Hanover’s Charlie Bishop(170) pinned Rashad Dawud in 3:58. Chiefs Chase Simmons(182) pinned Ismael Gallegos in 0:45. The last three matches were forfeits- Seth Clewis(195) for North Myrtle Beach, Devante Patterson(220) for New Hanover and Malachi Black(285) for North Myrtle Beach.

The Chiefs beat Myrtle Beach 57-18 Monday to clinch the 6AAAA region championship. North Myrtle Beach will begin the Lower State Playoffs Saturday at noon. Brookland-Cayce will meet Hilton Head and the Chiefs will wrestle the winner immediately thereafter to try and advance in the playoffs at North Myrtle Beach High School gym.
