The Solid Waste Authority’s Spotlight on Environmental Awareness (S.E.A.) program recognizes agencies/businesses/companies that practice reducing, reusing and recycling in their daily operations, promotes the conservation of natural resources and/or utilizes sustainable business practices.
Sustainable business practices are characterized by environmentally friendly practices initiated by a company for the purposes of becoming a more sustainable organization.
These companies aim to reduce their environmental footprint through initiatives that cut down on waste, poor environmental stewardship and unethical environmental practices that offer a reduced level of stainability within company practices.
Sustainable business practices differ among industries and are often specific to the company type and the product or service it produces.
The Tidewater Red Cups is an Adopt a Highway group in Little River that consists of 125 volunteer residents of Tidewater Plantation.
Since June of 2009, on the first Saturday of each month the group picks up litter within Tidewater Plantation and along Little River Neck Road.
They have hosted 160 events along the two-mile stretch of Little River Neck Road, collecting 2,265 bags of litter equaling approximately 16.9 tons of waste.
In addition, the Tidewater Red Cups also participate in community clean-ups each year in partnership with the Horry County Solid Waste Authority. Since 2019, 32.10 tons of construction and demolition and seven tons of municipal solid waste has been picked up through these community clean-ups.
The Tidewater Red Cups are dedicated to reducing their environmental impact and to providing a better future for our planet.
