Chiefs baseball team wins conference game 4-2 over Hartsville Tuesday night

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs baseball team won a big conference matchup Tuesday evening, beating visiting Hartsville 4-2 at the North Myrtle Beach sports complex. The Chiefs started the evening by throwing out a Hartsville runner at the plate in the first inning as he broke from third while the Chiefs were making a throw to first to complete a strikeout in the dirt. NMB spring sports teams are having a busy season

North Myrtle Beach High School spring sports teams are past the halfway point of their seasons as they continue play this week. Here is a review of recent events and teams and a look ahead. Girls Softball The girls softball team traveled to Wilson High School last Tuesday and lost by a 7-2 score in a conference game. The Lady Chiefs then came back on Wednesday, March 20, with an 11-1 victory over Loris in a non-conference game, aided by two four-run innings in the fourth and sixth. Winners chosen for St. Patrick’s Day Parade

The 31st Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade was hailed as the biggest and best ever according to reports by those in the know. Lending to the success of the event was the beautiful weather that prevailed throughout the day. Taking part in the almost two hour parade were floats, cars, golf carts, bands, dignitaries, leprechauns, animals, children and much more. Candidates want to improve city, complete unfinished projects

A special election to select a successor to the late Mayor Henry L. Nichols will be held on Tuesday, May 28, to fill the term of mayor until December 31, 2019. Four residents have filed with the city to be placed on the ballot for the May special election. They are: Joan Gause, council member; Todd Harrelson, council member and mayor pro tem; Michael E. Suggs, council member; and Jeannie Tyler-Fox. Joan Gause began serving the city and residents of Loris in the 1996 election for city council. Students prepare for technology fair

Twenty-two students at Loris Middle School participated in the school’s Technology Fair held on Thursday, March 15, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in the school gymnasium. The students select a category they want to create from a list provided by Amber LaSalle, the school’s media specialist. The projects at the fair included robotics, digital photography, animation, mobile app creation and video editing. They began working on their presentation beginning in November 2018 with the deadline of March 15, 2019. Zoning commission approves properties for annexation to city

The Zoning Commission Committee met on Monday, March 18, at 5:30 p.m. in the Loris Chamber of Commerce conference room. Present at the meeting were committee members Linda Morrison, Ruth Ann Jones and Tommy Brogdon, the city code enforcement director Brandon Harrelson, city attorney Kenneth Moss and resident Wendy Barusch. Committee members not present were Brett Powell and Joseph Flesch. Moss said, “It looks like we have a forum, it is time to begin and we can proceed when ready.” The meeting was called to order with Brogdon offering the invocation. St. Patrick’s Day Doggie Contest

Poseidon, a six-month old English Bulldog with a fun and spunky personality, was the winner of the Best Irish Dressed Dog contest last Saturday at the North Myrtle Beach Times office. The Kenneth Carmack family traveled from Conway. Nadia says Poseidon is her best friend. Her parents say they are inseparable and love having fun together. NMBHPS plans Ingram Dunes Potluck Picnic

Everyone is invited to join the North Myrtle Beach Historic Preservation Society at their Potluck Picnic for Ingram Dunes. The preservation of Ingram Dunes is the first project of the NMBHPS. They believe in the mission to save this historic site. The purpose for holding this picnic is to gather like minded citizens in support of saving Ingram Dunes.
