The North Myrtle Beach varsity baseball team began a week of games last Tuesday when they traveled to Myrtle Beach and came away with a 4-2 win. The Chiefs then took on their second “rival” team on Wednesday evening as Loris visited the Chiefs sports complex. This game went down to the wire as the Chiefs rallied in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 9-8 win. The Coastal Chairmen, a local team that practices at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness center, took second place in the CWBC tournament last weekend at the aquatic center gymnasium. The Chairmen lost to the Fayetteville Flyers by a 66-54 score in the championship game Sunday afternoon. The two teams battled to an 18-18 score after the first period but the Flyers, who were undefeated throughout the double elimination tournament, slowly took charge after that. The city of Loris Planning Commission met on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the Loris Chamber of Commerce conference room. In attendance were Brandon Harrelson, city planning commission chair, city attorney Kenneth Moss and committee members Tommy Brogdon and Ruth Ann Jones. The Loris City Council meeting was held on Monday, March 11, at 6 p.m. at McLeod Loris Center for Health and Fitness with Todd Harrelson, mayor pro-tem, presiding over the meeting. The 31st Annual North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival is on Saturday, March 16, on Main Street. The parade begins at 9 a.m. and the festival is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The one-day rain or shine event attracts more than 30,000 people annually. The drill team placed 2nd overall against many schools in the county including a school which competes on the national level.
