The line of fans for Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach Middle schools stretched into the parking lot outside the North Myrtle Beach High School gym last Saturday just after noon. Parents, teachers and students from both schools were lining up to see a championship game between the Seahawks and the Chiefs boys B-Team.

What better way to celebrate 30 years entertaining audiences than to unveil an entirely brand new show.

The North Myrtle Beach High School Lady Chiefs had another frustrating week of 6AAAA region basketball as they lost last Tuesday’s home encounter with Hartsville 46-23, then traveled to South Florence for a 50-35 loss to the Lady Bruins.

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs almost pulled off another home upset last Tuesday as they went to overtime with the Hartsville Red Foxes before losing 48-47. Then the Chiefs traveled to South Florence on Friday and were beaten 67-48.

As the entire country was glued to their phones and TVs last week following and charting the path of the Chinese spy balloon, a potential international diplomatic crisis cast a spotlight on the city of North Myrtle Beach and the whole of the Grand Strand as the balloon was shot down by American fighter jets on Saturday, Feb. 4, after it reached the Atlantic Ocean coastline.

Local middle schools around the county are playing in the inaugural HTC Middle School basketball Championship.

The South Carolina State Fair, a self-supporting 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, is now accepting applications for its 26th annual Ride of Your Life Scholarship program, which awards $300,000 in college scholarships to high school seniors across the Palmetto State each year.

McLeod celebrated an open house and ribbon cutting for McLeod Seacoast Medical Park Building 2 on Thursday, Feb. 2. This additional medical office building on the McLeod Health Seacoast campus is located at 3793 McDowell Lane in Little River. Community members had the opportunity to tour the facility and meet the physicians and staff.

Five area schools started off 2023 with new stringed instruments for their students, compliments of local charity South by Southeast.

The GFWC North Myrtle Beach Woman’s Club will host its annual charity event, Purses with Purpose, this year on Thursday, April 13, at 5:30 p.m. in the Nautilus Ballroom at the Marina Inn Grande Dunes.
