Citywide Cleanup Day is Saturday

Keep North Myrtle Beach Beautiful will hold its annual Citywide Home Cleanup Day on Saturday, Nov. 2,  from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The annual home cleanup day provides North Myrtle Beach residents with an opportunity to clean out their closets, attics, garages and storage sheds. During the event, residents may discard unwanted items, including appliances, TVs, electronics, furniture, paint, pesticides, chemicals, oil, old tires and more. However, no construction debris or medical waste will be accepted. Williams receives the NMB Chiefs Leadership Award

Principal Teresa Todd is presenting Jivon Willams as the recipient of the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs Leadership Award sponsored by Dew’s. Jivon is a sophomore at North Myrtle Beach High School. He is an active leader on the North Myrtle Beach Chiefs football team. Girls volleyball team finishes region play as 10-0 champions

The North Myrtle Beach High School girls varsity volleyball team had another successful week, beating Wilson and Darlington to finish the 6AAAA region with a 10-0 record and an overall record of 29-10. The Lady Chiefs beat the Wilson Tigers on Tuesday 3-0 (25-11, 25-21, 25-9) at North Myrtle Beach in their final regular season home match. Last Thursday the Chiefs finished up the regular season by travelling to Darlington and again won by a 3-0 score (25-8, 25-8, 25-11). NMB girls golf team wins region 6AAAA championship

The North Myrtle Beach High School girls golf team won the 6AAAA region golf championship last week with a one stroke victory over Myrtle Beach. The Chiefs scored 388 to nudge out Myrtle Beach with a 389. Hartsville was third with 429 and Darlington took fourth with 495. The Lady Chiefs were led by sophomore Cara Hilburn with a round of 82. Seventh grade sister Sydney Hilburn shot a 99, junior Savannah Jordan shot 100 and Kalynn Basehoar had a 107. Chiefs fall to the winless Falcons

The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs varsity football team fell on the road this past Friday night at region foe Darlington 10-9, losing their second straight game. The No. 7 ranked Chiefs (5-2, 0-2) went into the contest heavily favored over the Falcons (1-7, 1-1), who hadn’t won a game in over 700 days, two seasons. Playing in front of a large homecoming crowd at Darlington, the Falcons fan base came out for fun and fellowship, until their team had a chance to win, and for those who stuck around, it became a night they’ll never forget. Rescue squad fish fry, barbecue Saturday

The North Myrtle Beach Rescue Squad is pleased to announce the 61st Annual Fish Fry & Barbecue will be held at the Ocean Drive Elementary School on Saturday, Oct. 26. Sixty years ago, the rescue squad hosted its first fish fry and barbecue to generate the much-needed financial resources necessary to support an ambulance, supplies and staff for this unique lifesaving service that never charged a dime to the public for any services. Mayor appoints committee to develop plan

Prior to the Monday, Oct. 21, North Myrtle Beach City Council meeting, Council members met in a 6:45 p.m. executive session to discuss possible candidates to fill a vacancy for an unexpired term on the Planning Commission. Council took no action. During the 7 p.m. meeting, City Council recognized Team Shark 843 for its recent team and individual performances at the wakeboard nationals.
