Fun events set for area schools

By Annie Rigby The parade of the Lion Pride is sponsoring the Loris Elementary School Lion Pride as the teachers and staff caravan through Loris and keeping acceptable social distancing. There is no way the caravan can drive past each home or drive every street of the city. LHS Graduating Seniors Banner

Kaitlyn Courtney, Miss Loris Bog-Off Festival Teen along with Samantha Norris, the Loris Chamber of Commerce, made it possible for every LHS graduating senior to be recognized and honored by the City of Loris. The banner is at the Courtyard on Main across from the Loris Times. LHS lights up the fields for 2020 graduating class

By Annie Rigby Barry Brooks, Loris High School athletic director, and Jody Cox, assistant, joined all of Horry County Schools in lighting up the fields at the school in honor of the class of 2020. Brooks turned on the lights at the football field, tennis court, softball and baseball field for twenty minutes beginning at 8:20 p.m. which is 20:20 in military time representing the class of 2020. Loris restaurants open for outdoor dining

By Annie Rigby Local restaurants are allowed to provide outdoor dining. On Friday, May 1, Governor Henry McMaster lifted the stay home or work executive order as well as restaurants allowed to open for outdoor dining beginning Monday, May 4. The Grind owned and operated by Kristin and John Sedak have picnic tables set up outside the restaurant for people to sit while enjoying a good tasty meal in the beautiful sunshine. LHS band and orchestra graduates are recognized

By Annie Rigby Loris High School band director Stephen Whisnant (Mr. Whiz) ordered signs for each of the 2020 graduates who participated in band and orchestra and placed them in the grass in front of the Loris Chamber of Commerce. A proud teacher of 26 years he feels for the graduates missing their spring concerts, practicing and playing their instruments one last time for Loris High School. Family, friends donate to GoFundMe for local restaurant, Ernie’s Diner

By Annie Rigby The COVID-19 pandemic has caused heartache for many local businesses in Loris. One business affected is Ernie’s Diner, also known as Sunshine Pancake House, owned and operated by Ernie Ross. When the pandemic began Ross stated he was open for take-out orders only.He said, “If a local student brings their school identification card, we will give them a free breakfast.” No other restaurant offered a free meal to students in the Loris area. Sadly Ross had to close the diner due to the lack of customers calling in orders or visiting the drive-thru window to order a …
