Harriet’s House helps those recovering from addiction

Controlled land clearing fire jumped fire break

The Loris Fire Department received an alert for a large brush fire in the area of Loris High School. At the same time Loris Fire Department also had another alert for a large brush fire on Highway 45 in the Live Oak Community. The Loris Fire Department, Horry County Fire Rescue, Cherry Hill Fire Department, Goretown Fire Department, Mt. Vernon Fire Department and South Carolina Forestry Commission responded to Heritage Road to find a permitted controlled land clearing fire that jumped its fire break. Harrelson puts God first to help run the city well

Todd Harrelson is running for the mayoral seat in the Special Election to be held in May. When Mayor Henry L. Nichols passed away in February the seat of mayor for the city of Loris was considered vacated. Mayor Pro-tem Todd Harrelson took over the duties as mayor of Loris. Council approves annexations

The Loris City Council meeting was held on Monday, April 1, at 6 p.m. at the American Legion building with Todd Harrelson, mayor pro-tem, presiding. Present were council members Joan Gause, Lewis Hardee, Terrence Hardee and Mike Suggs. Department heads Damon Kempski, city administrator; Brandon Harrelson, public works and planning and zoning director; Gary Buley, Loris police chief; Lt. Williams; Kenya Wright, city clerk and treasurer; Samantha Norris, Loris Chamber of Commerce and Kenneth Moss, city attorney. Candidates want to improve city, complete unfinished projects

A special election to select a successor to the late Mayor Henry L. Nichols will be held on Tuesday, May 28, to fill the term of mayor until December 31, 2019. Four residents have filed with the city to be placed on the ballot for the May special election. They are: Joan Gause, council member; Todd Harrelson, council member and mayor pro tem; Michael E. Suggs, council member; and Jeannie Tyler-Fox. Joan Gause began serving the city and residents of Loris in the 1996 election for city council. Luncheon held to discuss future of the city of Loris

A town hall style meeting was hosted by the Loris Chamber of Commerce, Jack Murphy, the Loris Recreation Center and a city official to discuss with business owners and the public the future for Loris. Speakers were Samantha Norris of the chamber, Jack Murphy of WSLC Tiger Radio, recreation director Tom Cocke and Brandon Harrelson, city code enforcement director. Norris welcomed guests saying, “I appreciate you coming out to support the chamber.” She provided a rundown of what the chamber could do to help business owners.
