The Loris Police Department was dispatched to the BB&T Bank branch on Broad Street in the city on Thursday, Feb. 14, at approximately 1:30 p.m. The report states a light skinned black woman entered the bank telling the employees that she had a gun and demanded money. The employees never saw a weapon, but followed the instructions as the suspect took an undetermined amount of money and fled the bank on foot. The Loris High School (LHS) J.R.O.T.C. has had a busy February 2019 with the J.R.O.T.C. (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps) cadets having their annual Winter Sweet Heart Ball on Saturday, Feb. 2. Crossway Church held its annual Critter Cooking dinner on Saturday, Feb. 4. The line was out the door at this event with more than 300 guests who came to taste the foods of the land. The menu consisted of turkey burgers, sausage, hash, lasagna, chili, beaver stew and wontons, wild turkey Brunswick stew, catfish, squirrel, rabbit and more. Lt. Robert Rudelitch, Fire Marshal and Training Coordinator, stated the LFD responded to over 1,200 calls in 2018. He said, “As for 2018, it was the busiest year for the Loris Fire Department with over 1,200 calls requiring emergency services.” The LFD responds to all calls requiring emergency services which include fire, vehicle accidents and medical calls. The report for last year’s responses has not officially been released, though Rudelitch said that report will be available soon.
