Bellamy places third in finals

Ethan Bellamy, son of Ty and Harmony Bellamy, grandson of Scott and Ruth Anne Ellis, Terry and Liz Davis and Tommy Bellamy and great-grandson of Horace Campbell, competed in the 2019 WWA Nautique National Cable Wakeboard Championships in Waco, Texas. The three day event started on Aug. 29. Ethan advanced through quarter-finals and semi-finals. He then took 3rd place in the finals on Aug. 31. The national championship is the final event of the year in which wakeboarders must qualify in several points chase contests leading up to this event. Ethan Bellamy is all smiles about his trophy. Loris Lions take on South Columbus Stallions Friday night

The Loris Lions battled the South Columbus Stallions on Monday, Sept. 9, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Heniford Field.  The Friday night game for Sept. 6 was postponed due to Hurricane Dorian. Both the Lions and Stallions missed almost a week of practices because of the school closures for both of the Carolinas after the Labor Day weekend for hurricane preparation. Members of the Blue Pride gathered at 6:30 p.m. for dinner and a chat before the game as the Loris Lions Marching Band directed by Stephen Whiznant stood welcoming the Lions as they roared onto the field.  The LHS …

NMB Volleyball, other fall sports teams getting underway at school

The North Myrtle Beach girl’s volleyball team finished second in last weekend’s preseason tournament at North Myrtle Beach, before this week’s opener. The Lady Chiefs won three of five matches in the tournament. They won over Marvin Ridge 2-1 (19-25, 25-23, 15- 13), lost to Porter Gaud 1-2 (25-18,16-25, 11- 15), won 2-0 over Hoggard (25-23, 25-13), won over West Henderson 2-0 (25-21, 25-22) and lost to Wando 0-2 (15-25, 15-25). Chiefs open football season with win over powerhouse Tigers The North Myrtle Beach High School varsity football team opened the 2019 regular season in spectacular fashion last Friday night, defeating the Conway Tigers for the second year in a row. Entering the game with a No. 6 state ranking in 4A, the Chiefs put up 24 points to the 5A Tigers’ 7 points. The heavily attended game at the Hank Hester Sports Complex, on the campus of North Myrtle Beach High School, opened scoring near the end of the first quarter with a 69 yard touchdown pass for the Tigers. …

Trojans win by 51-9 score

The Green Sea Floyds High School varsity football team traveled to West Columbus High School in Cerro Gordo, N.C., to take on the Vikings this past Friday night. The Green Sea Floyd’s Trojans dominated in the away non-conference game in both offense and defense and won by a final score of 51-9. The Trojans will be back home next Friday night to take on the Hannah-Pamplico High School Raiders in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m. Green Sea Floyd’s junior running back Jaquan Dixon (#9) can be seen running around the left side of the line for a large gain …

NMB High School football teams and cheerleaders introduced to fans

Last Thursday evening the North Myrtle Beach High School football teams, band and cheerleaders were introduced individually to fans, parents and boosters for the first time. The band marched onto the field and played a preview of their halftime show. The varsity and junior varsity cheerleading squads performed and then the JV and varsity football teams were introduced as they walked down the stadium track. It was a unique way to introduce everyone and show how each of the groups are important to the success of the football program.

Walker named varsity boys basketball coach at high school

Ryan Walker was recently appointed the new varsity boys basketball coach at North Myrtle Beach High School. Walker replaces Darcie Vincent who moved to Western Carolina University after one year of coaching at North Myrtle Beach. I met Walker in his new office near the gym as he settles into his new position. He stated that he grew  up in a basketball family. His father played at Wake Forest and he played at Division I and II schools before beginning a coaching career. “I started coaching right out of college, first as a graduate assistant at a Division II school …
