ODPC sponsoring golf tournament

The 18th Annual Ocean Drive Presbyteruab Church Golf Tournament will be played on Saturday, Aug. 24, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start at Eagle Nest Golf Course in Little River. Volunteers are needed to help with the luncheon. Proceeds will go to those in need through the board of deacons and the Well Spring Ministry at the church. Call Mary Gail Stanaland at 843-249-2312. NMB 11-12 year-old All-Stars finish second in Dixie Youth Baseball State Tournament

The North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department 11 and 12 year-old All-Star team made it all the way to the final game of the Dixie Youth State Championship Tournament before losing 6-2 to Edgefield County to end their dream of going to the Dixie Youth World Series. North Myrtle Beach got to the finals by beating Greenwood 6-1 in their first game, then beating Hartsville 12-0. They lost their third game to Edgefield County by a 7-1 score, then qualified for the finals with an 11-10 win last Wednesday over Union County, which sent them into the final game …

Coach Joe celebration is set

The city of North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation will hold a naming and dedication ceremony for the Joe Lategano Court located at the J. Bryan Floyd Community Center on Possum Trot Road on Wednesday, July 31 at 5:30 p.m. Coach Joe Lategano will be recognized for his many years as a coach, mentor and supporter of North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation. Coach Joe currently serves as the  chairman of the Recreation Commission. All past players, coaches and supporters are invited to the ceremony to celebrate Coach Joe Lategano.

The North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation Department is excited to bring to you, Park N’ Play! A recreation center on wheels that offers a variety of organized activities to promote outdoor play at local parks. This mobile recreation program will establish new locations to play and enhance current play opportunities throughout the community. New deer hunting regulations go into effect this year

South Carolina deer hunters should start seeing deer tags for the 2019 season in their mailboxes soon, and there are significant changes to the antlerless tagging system that all hunters need to be aware of before taking to the field. New for this year are improvements to the Antlerless Deer Tag program. A new law was passed by the General Assembly, resulting in the elimination of the eight date specific anterless tags, replacing them with two anterless tags that may be used on any day beginning Sept. 15 in Game Zones 2, 3 and 4 and Oct. 1 in Game …

Dixie Youth All-Star teams continue play this week

Three North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department all-star teams continued play this week in the Dixie Youth Baseball Championship tournaments being held around the state. The 10 and under all-stars, who were seeded 11th in the 12-team event, started play last weekend with a 7-4 win over the sixth seeded team from Orangeburg. North Myrtle Beach then took on the 5th seeded Hartsville team, and lost by a 2-0 score. Thoughts surprising baseball during the Home Run Derby

If you believe that baseball is the national pastime then you probably tuned in to some of the festivities in Cleveland, Ohio, this week. The annual All-Star game features the best of the best, players that have been voted into a game that showcases the skills and abilities of veteran players and sometimes a few of the youngsters of the game. NMB 7-8 year old machine pitch all stars season ends in Florence

The North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department 7-8 year old machine pitch all-star team lost their first two games at the state Dixie Youth tournament in Florence over the weekend and were eliminated from the tournament. North Myrtle Beach first lost to the Bluffton Nationals squad by a 10-1 score and then lost their game in the losers bracket, as Saluda beat them 10-0. NMB All Star Teams begin State Championship hunt this weekend

Four North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department all star teams have successfully advanced to the state Dixie Youth championship.  The 7-8 year-old boys team is the first squad to begin their quest for a title as they travel to Florence to begin play in a twelve team double elimination tournament. Their first game is at 9 a.m. this Saturday and if they win (or lose) they can advance to the championship game which probably will occur next Thursday. Intracoastal Model Railroad Club Train Show

The show will be held on Saturday, July 6, and Sunday, July 7, from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Carolina Shores POA Clubhouse at 17 Lakeview Court in Carolina Shores.  Admission is free and there is plenty of free parking on site.  Look for signs on Route 17 near Calabash.
