HCDP Golf Outing Supports Party, Vets

By Bob Gatty The 2nd Annual Dick Elliott Memorial Golf Outing, held on Saturday, June 29, by the Horry County Democratic Party (HCDP) at Legends Golf Resort in Myrtle Beach was, by all accounts, a great success. The event was an important part of HCDP’s initiative to raise funds for its activities, and 10 percent of net profits will be contributed to the Veterans Welcome Home and Resource Center in Little River, which also benefited from a special drawing, sponsored by Anderson Insurance LLC of Little River, that provided one golfer a chance to shoot for $1 million. “It was …

Register for benefit golf tournament

The North Myrtle Beach Department of Public Safety and Tidewater Golf Club are sponsoring a golf tournament that will benefit the children of the Department of Public Safety. All proceeds from the event will go toward the North Myrtle Beach Public Safety Scholarship Fund. The scholarship fund was established by the family of Johnny L. Causey Sr. to honor his memory. He served as a police officer, police chief and the first director of public safety for the city of North Myrtle Beach. Six teams representing city

The 2019 spring baseball and softball all stars are in full swing for the city of North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation department. Six teams are representing NMB in their respective district tournaments over the next couple of weeks in hopes of making it to the state tournaments. These indviduals were chosen as top players in their league by the coaches to represent the city of North Myrtle Beach. Largest donation ever kicks off with free events

Noted conservationist and Bass Pro Shops founder Johnny Morris is challenging families everywhere to put down their digital devices and head outside to discover the joys of fishing this summer. Morris, Bass Pro Shops and Cabela’s are donating more than 55,000 rods and reels to not-for-profit partners that help kids from all backgrounds connect to the great outdoors to kick off Gone Fishing. Sports Camps Registration Open

Registration is now open for the North Myrtle Beach Parks & Recreation Summer Sports Camps. The department has partnered with North Myrtle Beach High School to offer a variety of specialty sports camps all summer long. These camps are for youth that have skills in a particular sport that they want to be refined or those looking to try a new sport. Safety boating course offered

America’s Boating Course, a boating safety class, will be offered by America’s Boating Club, also known as the North Strand Sail & Power Squadron.  Most vessel insurance companies offer a discount to boaters who have successfully completed this course, The class will take place on Saturday, June 22.  It will begin at 8 a.m. and run until about 5 p.m.  The cost is $40 for members and $65 for non-members.   It includes a textbook.  Additional family members pay $20 and share the book.  A light breakfast and delicious lunch will be served for no additional fee. Free swim lessons being offered

The North Myrtle Beach Aquatic & Fitness Center (AFC) and the Grand Strand Masters Swim Team offer free beginner swim lessons for adults and children ages five and older June 3-6 at the AFC. Classes are 5:30 p.m., 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Preregistration is required and available at the AFC at 1100 Second Avenue South beginning on May 13. There are more than 18 million swimming pools and hot tubs in the United States.
