The Annual Christmas Angels Project is underway at North Myrtle Beach High School. This program is in the 15th year. It involves students at North Myrtle Beach High School in the lives of elementary schools at the three local schools. Students form a group to adopt children whose families may otherwise struggle to provide Christmas gifts for them. This year 180 children have been adopted by students at the high school. Originally from Spartanburg, Brianna graduated from Anderson University earning a bachelors degree in Early Childhood Education. Brianna married Nick Webb this past October. She is the daughter of Kevin and Tracy Spake. Brianna has one sister, Chloe, and two brothers, Austin who is married to Tabby and Brandon, who is married to Stephanie. Cathy Altman, executive director of the North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum, presented information regarding the descendants of John Knox Witherspoon and the connection to her family to the students of Current Transitions. John Knox Witherspoon was a signer of the Declaration of Independence, born in Scotland on February 5, 1723, to a family of clergymen. By the age of four, he could read the Bible, at the age of 13, he entered college and at age 20, he was licensed to preach. On Nov. 19, Cathy Threatt, an English teacher at North Myrtle Beach High School, presented to the Lions Club about the 15th annual Christmas Angels celebration. The Lions Club generously donated $300 to the Christmas Angels fund. Donations are needed to replenish the account from last year. The two hurricanes last year drained the account, but it was money well spent. This year the students at NMBHS have adopted 180 children (60 from each of our local elementary schools). Children along with parents/guardians fill out a wants and needs list that the students use to purchase gifts. Students raise roughly …

Local community groups have been decorating Christmas trees to celebrate the upcoming holiday season for the North Myrtle Beach Area Historical Museum. Members of the Grand Strand Keepsake Collectors Club, Current Transitions and the North Myrtle Beach Sea Turtle Patrol decorated trees last week at the museum. Additional groups are scheduled to decorate trees in the coming weeks. The Grand Strand Keepsake Collector’s Club provided Keepsake ornaments and a golden crown tree topper. By Mary Templeton It was a wonderful day in the neighborhood on Friday, Nov. 15. The ECOTOTS in Mrs. Holloway’s kindergarten class at Ocean Drive Elementary School learned they could bring a garden inside. With guidance from Graceann Phillips, several Yaupon Garden Club (YGC) members helped the students build their very own classroom terrarium. Each child was given an opportunity to add rocks, dirt and finally his/her plant to the terrarium.
