Everyone is invited to join the North Myrtle Beach Historic Preservation Society at their Potluck Picnic for Ingram Dunes. The preservation of Ingram Dunes is the first project of the NMBHPS. They believe in the mission to save this historic site. The purpose for holding this picnic is to gather like minded citizens in support of saving Ingram Dunes. Everyone who believes like they do, that this precious city treasure should not be destroyed, should attend. The Society will be providing hot dogs and drinks. During the March 18 City Council meeting, Mayor Marilyn Hatley presented to Sea Haven for Youth Senior Community Services Coordinator Wendy Gore a proclamation declaring the week of March 17-March 23 as National Safe Place Week. This marks the 36th anniversary of the nationwide Safe Place collaborative community initiative. The proclamation urges the people of North Myrtle Beach to promote awareness of and volunteer involvement in the Safe Place program, managed locally by Sea Haven for Youth. My column this week is from John 18, “Jesus Appears Before Pilate.” Verse 28 – Then the Jews led Jesus from Caiaphas to the palace of the Roman governor. By now it was early morning, and to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter the palace; they wanted to be able to eat the Passover. The Jews led Jesus to the palace of the Roman governor. John says little about the Jewish phase of Jesus’ trial but much about the Roman trial (see Mark 14:53—15:15). Every year on March 17, people around the globe celebrate Irish culture and heritage with food, drink, and lively parades in honor of St. Patrick’s Day. The 31st annual St. Patrick’s Day Festival and Parade will be held on Main Street in NMB, Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 9 a.m. This one-day, rain or shine event brings approximately 30,000 people to celebrate being Irish and welcome the coming of spring. My column this week is from John 18:19-27, where “The High Priest Questions Jesus” and “Peter’s Second and Third Denials.” Verse 19 – Meanwhile, the high priest questioned Jesus about His disciples and His teaching. These were not legal questions asked by the high priest since witnesses were supposed to be brought in first to establish guilt. The accused was not required to prove His innocence. The 31st Annual North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival is on Saturday, March 16, on Main Street. The parade begins at 9 a.m. and the festival is from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The one-day rain or shine event attracts more than 30,000 people annually. The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce is the St. Patrick’s Day Parade presenting sponsor. The North Strand Optimist Club organizes the parade, and all entry fees go back into helping the youth of our community. Marlisa Small, philanthropist, performer, business woman and patriot, is the grand marshal for the 2019 North Myrtle Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade on Saturday, March 16. The Naval Junior ROTC at North Myrtle Beach High School was successful at the Carolina Forest Drill meet on Saturday, March 9. The drill team placed 2nd overall against many schools in the county including a school which competes on the national level. Trophies received included 1st place in Freshman Colorguard, 2nd place in Freshman Squad and Armed Squad and 3rd place in Unarmed Squad, Exhibition Squad, Armed Platoon and Unarmed Platoon.
