David Henry Johnson Jolly, 89, of Little River passed away on Friday, Nov. 22, 2019, at River Park Senior Living. Born on April 19, 1930, in Montrose, Scotland, he was the son of the late Annie Jolly. Those surviving include his sons, Kenneth C. Jolly and Stephen F. Jolly; three grandchildren; brother-in-law, David Todd; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Cameron and Retta Todd.  Along with his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Elizabeth Eaton Merry. David Clifton Creech, 65, of Little River passed away suddenly on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2019, at McLeod Seacoast Hospital in Little River. Born on March 20, 1954, he was the son of the late J.R. Griggs and Edna Hall Hopkins. Mr. Creech is survived by his loving wife of 29 years, Vicki Lester Creech; sons, David Flint (Laura) and Cameron Creech; mother, Edna Hopkins; brothers, Roger and Mike Griggs; and seven grandchildren. Richard C. “Dickie” Talbert, Jr., 71, of N. Myrtle Beach, following a brief illness, passed away peacefully surrounded with love on Tuesday, Nov. 5, at MUSC in Charleston. Dickie was born on Nov. 14, 1947, in Albemarle, N.C., and was the son of the late Richard C. Talbert and the late Margaret Rose Wilhoit Talbert. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, James “Jim” Corriher of Cornelius, N.C. He was a graduate of Albemarle Senior High Class of 1966 and attended CPCC. Monty Simpson, 75, of North Myrtle Beach, formerly of Trinity, N.C., passed away on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2019. He was born in Mooresville, N.C., reared in Rockwell, N.C., to parents, Charles Harry Simpson and Evelyn Menius Simpson, both deceased. He was also predeceased by a brother, Phil Simpson (Peggy) of China Grove, N.C. Joyce Somerset, 87, of North Myrtle Beach, died on Monday, Nov. 18, 2019, at her home. Born on Feb. 12, 1932, in Lincolnton, N.C., she was a daughter of the late Hillard and Virginia (Kale) Saine. She is survived by her daughter, Billie Martin of North Myrtle Beach, and two grand dogs, Grayson and Piper. Joyce retired from AT&T after 35 years of service with perfect attendance. She was active throughout her life in church, serving as an Elder, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, leading a Bible study and various other duties and activities. Bettie Gail Stevens Altman of Loris passed to her heavenly home on  Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2019. Bettie Stevens Altman or “Nonie” as she liked to be called by her grandchildren, had many favorite pastimes.  Fishing was her favorite.  Shopping in Walmart for long periods of time, especially during end of year sales, was a close second.  She enjoyed special holidays where her grandchildren and great-children were involved.  Mrs. Altman was born in Loris, a daughter of the late Ernest Odell and Jackie Fowler Stevens.  She was predeceased by her son, Kevin Shelley; three brothers, Shelton, Jimmy and Belton Stevens; and …

William Grady Thomas of Bristol, Tenn., died on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2019 with family by his side. He was 85 years old. Dr. Thomas received his B.S. at Appalachian State University, his M.S. from Washington University in St. Louis and earned his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. He was the first clinical audiologist in the state of North Carolina. He retired from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1985 where he taught at the School of Medicine’s Division of Otolaryngology. He headed the hospital’s hearing and speech department and did extensive research related to the auditory …

Mary K. Hannell Nance was born to Thomas and Rosemary Hannell in Lafayette, Indiana, on September 29, 1951. She lived in Delphi, Indiana, from birth into her teenage years until she and her family moved to Albamarle, North Carolina, where she graduated from high school in 1969. She attended Coker College and graduated there in 1973. She briefly lived in Charleston, South Carolina, and worked for Social Services before moving to North Myrtle Beach. She married Paul M. Nance of North Myrtle Beach in 1982 and they were happily married until his death in 1999. She never married again. Mary …

John Richard Slaughter Sr. was born in Florence, Ala., on April 18, 1937.  After graduating from high school in Jackson, Tenn., he attended Auburn University where he graduated in 1962 from the School of Engineering. Dick’s first love, of course, was his family, consisting of his wife, Ann; two sons, John Richard Jr. and Scott Christopher (Malisa); and four grandchildren, Casey, Garrison, Blake and Sam. Joanne S. Fraser, 61,  of Little River passed away on Sunday,  Oct. 20, 2019 at home.  Born on May 20, 1958, in Bridgeport, Conn., she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Sovich Timko. She is survived by her loving daughter, Natasha Goebel (Steven); two sisters, Kim Timko York and Karen Timko Fuller; and one grandchild, Stephanie Elizabeth Goebel.  She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Fraser.
