Dorris D. Harrelson

Dorris D. Harrelson, 94, of Tabor City, N.C., passed away on Monday, May 20, 2019. Born on July 30, 1924, in Loris, he was the son of the late H.Q. Harrelson and Minnie Harrelson. Mr. Harrelson was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was a devoted Christian man who loved the Lord. Mr. Harrelson was easy going and had a kind heart. He enjoyed being outdoors, working in the garden, driving his tractor and working in his garage. Along with his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 73 years, Vernelle F. Carolyn H. Blake

Carolyn H. Blake of North Myrtle Beach passed away from cardiovascular complications and stroke. Carol was born in Bativa, New York, to the late Wallace and Helen Warren. The family soon moved to Dearborn, Michigan, and later Carol married her high school sweetheart, Gerry Blake. They moved to Southern California where she worked as a secretary while Gerry finished college. In 1962 they moved back to Michigan to raise a family of three wonderful children. Louise Maria Andrews

Louise Maria Andrews departed us on Friday, May 10, 2019, after a lengthy illness and now is in the loving embrace of her Lord and Savior. She was born in Amsterdam, Netherlands, on May 3, 1926, and was the oldest of 10 children. She lived through the Dutch famine of World War II, which at times required her to cross the country on her bicycle in search of food. Glen Alan “Rock” Purchell, 59, of Little River and formerly of Virginia, passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019, at his residence. Glen was born in Portsmouth, Va., the son of Loisanne Long Purchell and the late Gordon Eugene Purchell. Glen retired from the Washington Area Transit Authority as a supervisor after 30 years with the authority. He recently started a new job at a local marina as a forklift driver and was thoroughly enjoying his new beach life occupation. Bonnie Faye Roberts Floyd,  83, of Loris passed away on Monday, May 13, 2019, at her home. Mrs. Floyd was born on Dec. 28, 1935, in Tabor City, N.C., to the late Henry Hampton Roberts Sr. and the late Grace Phillips Roberts. She was a longtime member of Lake Swamp Baptist Church and the owner and operator of W.E. Floyd’s grocery until her retirement. Virginia Belle Fowler, 94, of Loris passed away on Tuesday, May 7, 2019, at McLeod Loris Hospital in Loris. Mrs. Fowler was born on April 17, 1925, in Tabor City, N.C., to the late Rossie Fowler and the late Gertrude Harrelson Fowler. She worked as seamstress with Loris Manufacturing until her retirement and was a longtime member of Loris First Baptist Church. Edmund “Ed” Vaitis of North Myrtle Beach passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2019, at his home. Ed Vaitas was a man that is well known and loved in the North Myrtle Beach community and surrounding areas for his many charitable services. Peter Joseph Quintano, 99, of Loris passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2019, at McLeod Loris Hospital. He was born on Nov. 3, 1919, in Bari, Italy, to the late John Joseph Quintano and the late Pauline Carnocchio Quintano.
