The Coastal Chairmen, a local team that practices at the North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness center, took second place in the CWBC tournament last weekend at the aquatic center gymnasium. The Chairmen lost to the Fayetteville Flyers by a 66-54 score in the championship game Sunday afternoon. The two teams battled to an 18-18 score after the first period but the Flyers, who were undefeated throughout the double elimination tournament, slowly took charge after that. The city of North Myrtle Beach has 2,600 college athletes arriving this week for spring training. Groups of students will be participating in the High Tide Ultimate Frisbee Tournament at the North Myrtle Beach Park & Sports Complex now through March 30. This group of students from Georgetown University is here for the tournament and are enjoying the beach as a bonus.

The North Myrtle Beach High School Lacrosse Teams have finally had their first wins. The boys junior varisity team beat the Myrtle Beach High School Junior Varsity team at home on Saturday, March 9. This win was the first lacrosse win by any lacrosse team in the history of the high school. The final score of the junior varsity game was 3-2 in favor of the Chiefs. Last Saturday the Chiefs varsity baseball team opened their home season with an 8-3 win over visiting West Brunswick. The Chiefs opened the scoring on a double by Austin Fine for a 1-0 lead after four innings. West Brunswick got three runs in the top of the fifth inning for a brief lead. The 10th Paddle at the Beach Pickleball Tournament concluded play on Saturday afternoon after two days of volleying between 34 men’s and 21 women’s teams. The tournament kicked off on Friday with “pool” competition and changed to a double elimination format on Saturday. Tournament director Rick Harpster explained. “Our format is very popular with players because many tournaments use the double elimination format throughout. The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs baseball team beat Myrtle Beach 4-2 on Tuesday evening and then won a thriller against Loris by scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 9-8 non-conference win. The Chiefs scored single runs in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to build a 4-0 lead, then held off a late bid by the Seahawks in the bottom of the seventh for a 4-2 conference victory. The North Myrtle Beach Chiefs wrestling team capped a successful season with three second place finishers at the 4A state wrestling individual championships in Anderson, on February 22 and 23. The Chiefs also had a third place winner during the two-day event at the Anderson Civic center. The North Myrtle Beach High School wrestling team traveled to Bluffton for the 4A SC High School Individual wrestling competition last Friday and Saturday. After two long days of matches the Chiefs qualified five team members for the individual state finals to be held in Anderson on February 22 and 23.
