Franklin K. Gardner of Columbia and Longs passed into eternal rest and peace on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020, after a long illness. He was the son of the late Isaac Franklin Gardner and Mae Singleton Gardner of Columbia. He was a lifelong member of Park Street Baptist Church and a graduate of Columbia High School, class of 1955. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force at McEntire AFB / ANG in Eastover. Being accredited from North Florida University, with his general contractors license, he went on to hold many esteemed appointments throughout his professional career. He was a man of abundant talent, best remembered for his love of family and unwavering faith. Today we rejoice with the Lord that he is risen “whole” again through His love and offering of eternal life.
Surviving in addition to his beloved wife, Dianne Headen Gardner, are sisters, Bertha Gardner, Koon and Jean G. O’Daniel Nichols (Earnest), daughters, Cynthia Rene’ Gardner-Stebbings (Rob), Mary LeAnn Xavier (Scott) and Kathryn Leigh Caspar (Mark), son, James Mark Headen (Carmen), and grandchildren, Joel, Naya, Brandon, Samuel, Cole and Clare.
Celebration of life services will be held as follows: Friday, April 17 at 9:30 a.m., at the Village Church at Park Street, (formerly known as Park Street Baptist Church) 2204 Park Street, Columbia, S.C. 29201, concluding with a USAF Honor Guard interment at 12:00 p.m. at Ft. Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, S.C. 29229.
Further commemorative services will follow on Saturday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at North Strand Community Church, 2582 Mt. Zion Road, Little River, S.C. 29566.
