Charles Edward James, 82, of Loris passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2020, at McLeod Loris Hospital. He was born on Feb. 9, 1938, in Loris to the late Leamon Dewey James Sr. and the late Ina Meice Harris James. Mr. James worked as a farmer and in construction until his retirement. He was a longtime member of the Blue Pride, an avid Loris Lions fan and was a life long member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Hester Faulk James; son, Charles Timothy “Timmy” James and wife Sandy of Loris; son-in-law, Barry Spivey of Conway; two daughters, Samantha Skipper and husband Tony of St. Augustine, Fla., and Jennifer Anderson and husband Christian of Loris; five brothers, Leamon Dewey James Jr. and wife Barbara of Florence, Herman Paul James and wife Shelba of Loris, Robert Wayne James and wife Linda of North Myrtle Beach and Bobby Reynolds James and wife Judy of Goose Creek; eleven grandchildren, Ben Spivey and wife April of Little River, Brooke Spivey Whitson and husband William of Gaithersburg, Md., Anna Anderson, Aubrey Anderson and Ava Anderson, all of Loris, Ashley Lynn of St, Augustine, Fla., Tori Skipper of Jacksonville, Fla., Scott Edward James, Taylor Brooke Norris, Brandy Alexis James and Landon Seth James, all of Loris; three great-grandchildren, Nora Josaphine Whitson of Gaithersburg, Md., Brody Lynn of St. Augustine, Fla., and James Spivey of Little River; and sister-in-law, Carol James of Conway.
Mr. James was predeceased by his daughter, Laura Spivey, grandson, Charles Brandon James, and brother, Lloyd Collins James.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 10, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Hardwick Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 11, at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church. Pastor Rodney Hord and the Rev.Mack Hutson officiated. Committal services followed at Hardee Cemetery.
