Maurice “Marty” Lacey, born on July 16, 1937, in New York, N.Y., passed peacefully at his home in North Myrtle Beach surrounded by his family on Tuesday, April 7, 2020. He was born and raised in New York, N.Y., to Maurice and Mary Supple Lacey. A true patriot, Marty enlisted and proudly served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Sheila Reid Dewey, 53 of North Myrtle Beach went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, April 10, 2020, at McLeod Seacoast Medical Center in Little River. Born on Nov. 28, 1966, in Catawba County, N.C., she was the daughter of the late Wilbern and Violet Davis Reid.  She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother and sister.  Her granddaughters were her life.  She fought a courageous battle with breast cancer to the end. Mitchell Edward Batten, 73, of North Myrtle Beach passed away at his home on Thursday, April 9, 2020. The son of the late Carlie and Elbie Tysinger Batten, he was born on March 16, 1947, in Troy, N.C. Mitchell was a veteran who served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. Following military service he worked as an entrepreneurial software developer and real estate broker in the Troy area before moving to the beach in 1989. Robert Clyde McCord Jr. of Conway died on Wednesday, April 1, 2020, at Conway Medical Center from complications associated with COVID-19. Mr. McCord was born on Jan. 26, 1937, a son of the late Robert Clyde McCord Sr. and Mary Akins McCord. He was born and grew up in the Oakdale Community of Mecklenburg County, N.C. His daddy bought him his first car, an old four-door sedan, when Robert was 12 years old. He soon removed the back seat so he could haul goats and calves. The Horry County Solid Waste Authority recently recognized Loris area resident Cathy Smith as the “Caught Green Handed” recipient for the month of April. The “Caught Green Handed” recognition is presented monthly to an Horry County resident caught in the act of recycling, stated Esther Murphy, director of Recycling and Corporate Affairs for the Solid Waste Authority. “It’s the Solid Waste Authority’s way of recognizing and thanking citizens who have made the effort to recycle. County offers assistance for businesses

Recognizing the economic impacts to our area resulting from emergencies and disasters, Horry County Council has taken action to implement additional protections for the business community as part of the County’s emergency management, response and recovery. With the Governor’s order declaring a State of Emergency on March 13, 2020, certain provisions dealing with the filing of fee returns took immediate effect.
