On March 5, M. Lois Eargle, will speak at Coffee with Friends at the North Myrtle Beach Library. She has served as Horry County Auditor since 1993, and the first woman to hold the position.
She has been active in politics and civic affairs since her graduation from the University of South Carolina’s Institute of Government. The author of several books will speak about the self-reliance, self-determination and empowerment of the individual. The subject matter is her story, Double Standards in the Political Arena.
When Lois Eargle ran for her first term (of four terms) in the South Carolina House of Representatives in 1976, she did so as the first woman in Horry County to run for the state legislature. She was president of the first Citizen’s Congress, appointed by the governor, to reform the South Carolina judicial system. Lois was selected to the Board of the American Judicature Society, the only non-jurist on the board. President Ronald Reagan appointed her to the President’s Commission on Mental Retardation. She is president of the South Carolina Association of Countywide Elected Executives and chairman emeritus of the Horry County Republican Party.
She continues to live in Conway and serves on many civic, charitable groups and academic boards in South Carolina. Lois is known to enjoy leading songs on bus trips to historic places. You will enjoy meeting this local author.
Join The Friends of the Library of North Myrtle Beach who will host her at 10 a.m. in the meeting room at the North Myrtle Beach Library on March 5.
